Hairstyles at the National Television Awards & The 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

To follow on with last week's post about hairstyles we have fished through photos from the National Television Awards & The 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards to bring you the hairstyles that we think will be big trend setters for the year ahead.

Here is our best hairstyle picks from the National Television Awards:

Billie Faiers

The TOWIE star was seen sporting an elegant 1960’s updo, the hairstyle complements her heart shaped face.

Melanie Sykes

The television presenter arrived to the event with a sleek low bun and a side swept fringe.

Laura Whitmore

The MTV presenter donned a Marilyn Monroe-esque updo with glossy curls wrapped around the back into a bun and a single curl shaping the right side of her face.

Here is our best hairstyle picks from the 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards:

Amanda Seyfried

The actress followed in Kristen Stewart's style with a side sweep, however, unlike Kristen’s hair, Amanda has slicked back the left side of her hair and added some natural waves to the length.

Naomi Watts

The actress had tucked strands behind her ear on her right side and curled long locks trailing down her neck on her left.

Claire Danes

The Homeland actress, went for a simple loose ponytail with her fringe framing her face.

Hairstyles for Long Hair

Looking for a new hairstyle for longer hair? Then wait no more, we have compiled a list of new hairstyles to try out on your long locks. Ranging from blunt fringes to faux bobs you are sure to find a style to suit you.

Sweeping hair to the side:

Following in the footsteps of Kristen Stewart's latest hairstyle is to sweep hair to the side. You can either go with your natural texture, or spritz a salt-water spray onto strands, and scrunch from ends to roots. Then, choose your best side and sweep your strands across to the opposite side.

The blunt fringe:

Like Zooey Deschanel, give your extra long locks a shake up with a freshly cropped fringe. Ask your hairdresser to snip the centre pieces so they fall right below your eyebrows, while the outer ones should be slightly longer.

The faux bob:

The style recently donned by Selena Gomez is easier than it looks: Simply pull sections of your hair up into itself and pin it with hair grips underneath your hair. This creates illusion of you having or not having a haircut.

Poker straight hair:

Achieve poker straight hair like Beyoncé's. To prevent frying your hair with your straighteners, use a protective spray before straightening.

2013 Hair Trends

A new year, new you! What better way to start the new year than getting up to date with the latest hair trends to hit 2013. Various hair trends for 2013 include platinum blonde, the side part hairstyle, and the fringe.

Platinum Blonde

Never is the platinum blonde look out of fashion; another way of saying that the look is a trend for 2013. The trends most recent poster girl Ruby Jean Wilson opted for the look, channeling the 1960’s factory girl sentiment.

Thinking of changing your hair colour? Looking for a hair colour that will make you stand out? Platinum blonde is the choice for you as it sets you apart from the crowd.

Side Part Hairstyles

It is going to be hard to ignore the side parting as a statement hairstyle this season. With side parted hairstyles you can  wear it left, right, up, down, wet, dry, when you’re in a hurry or taking your time. It doesn’t matter if you have short or long hair either! To a side parting even the tightest of curls will be receptive to this hairstyle, providing the right hair product is used.

The Fringe

The question to ask is, has the fringe ever gone away? The answer: no. It hasn’t really changed for 2013 either. The fringe this year is best worn thick, blunt, and long (preferably sweeping the top of the eyes).

It is best worn with a  messy, textured, neo-bohemian, grungy edge swept haphazardly with a little peek-a-boo curtain.

Hair Extension Care

This week we thought we’d give you some tips on how to care for your hair extensions. It is important to care for your extensions all year round as both cold and hot weather can cause damage. Below are some tips to follow when caring for both clip in and weft extensions:

Clip-In Extensions - Washing:

  • Carefully detangle the hair extensions from clips to ends with a wide tooth comb.
  • Holding your hair extensions from the clips, apply a gentle flow of water, allowing it to run down the length of the hair.
  • Using tepid water carefully shampoo the hair with either moisturising or detangling shampoo. Without rubbing of twisting the hair, gently squeeze out the shampoo from clip to ends.
  • Rinse with clean, tepid water.
  • Gently squeeze out the excess water and pat/towel dry. Avoid rolling or rubbing the hair dry in a towel.
  • Again, with a wide tooth comb carefully detangle the hair. Start with the ends and gradually move upwards to remove any tangles, be careful not to pull too hard. Do not brush when wet!
  • Let the hair extensions air dry. If you don’t have much time you can blow dry, make sure you use a low or cool setting.
  • When the hair is completely dry, store with clips closed to avoid tangling.

Weft Extensions:

Weft hair extensions can either be clipped in or sewn in. For clip in weft extensions you can follow the above steps to maintain your hair. Below are some tips you can follow when caring for sewn in weft extensions:

  • At night wrap your hair in a silk scarf and stocking (stocking is to keep the scarf in place).
  • Try styling your weave a maximum of twice a week.
  • Try not to put your hair into a ponytail too often or too tight.
  • If your weave is curly then part into four sections at night to ensure no tangling.
  • At least once a week go through your rows and apply a moisturising hair and scalp cream.
  • Don’t put any type of grease or oil on your weave, i.e. olive oil sheen.
  • Shedding of extensions is normal as extensions have been cut at the track.
  • When sleeping make sure the closure piece is held down firmly.

I hope these hair care tips will come in handy and extend the life of your hair extensions. For more information about clip in and weft hair extensions visit our website at:
