Top Tips for Healthy Hair

Summer is just around the corner and it is time to start thinking about beach bodies and holiday fun. Whilst we all love to have our hair looking hot and fresh for the sunny season many of us neglect the health of our hair when we are dipping in and out of a swimming pool or jumping over the waves in the sea. Love Your Hair has recently documented top tips for maintaining good hair health - To make things easy we thought we would share the best ones with you:

1. A well-balanced diet is the best way to keep your hair healthy and strong. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, nuts, brown rice, beans and pulses,  and you’ll have tresses in top condition in no time.

2. If you lead a busy life and don’t have time to cook, supplement your diet with the hair-building vitamins B6, B12, evening primrose oil, folic acid and a good multivitamin.

3. The sun, even during winter, has drying effects on your hair and can fade colour. Use products that contain sunscreens and cover up in direct sunlight during the summer.

4. Stress and negative emotions can play a part in hair loss, flaky scalp conditions and excess sebum (oil) production. Find time to relax and de-stress for healthy locks.

5. Reduce the impact of heat styling with a good protector spray or balm. Choose a non-greasy product that won’t weigh your hair down.

6. Eliminate smoking, caffeine and fizzy drinks from your life – it will make your hair grow stronger and longer.

7. Have regular trims. Any stylist will recommend you visit the salon every six to eight weeks to zap split ends and encourage the hair to feel healthier.

Interested in Working With Real Hair by Clara?

This months newsletter was dedicated to the changes we have recently made to the Real Hair by Clara brand. Some changes were linked to our suppliers, whilst others were linked to our business model, and primarily our consultants.

Real Hair by Clara uses professional hair consultants to sell our products to day to day consumers. To date, we have received great success from our consultants and value their work and efforts. This month we have introduced some changes to provide initiatives to our consultants, and to also make their job easier.

Our hair extensions now come with durability tags, which are categorised under 3 levels of durability:

Everyday range - 6 months
Ultra range - 8 months
Clara Couture - 12 months

From 1st June we will be introducing a new reconditioning service exclusive to our consultants. This means consultants can now offer their customers the option of a revival service, which will increase the durability of the hair extensions for a further 3 months (as long as the hair is returned within the original durability period). Extensions can also be recoloured or have highlights added.

Consultants can also receive the following new benefits:

- Money back for hair extensions
- A new points system
- A new incentive system
- A new simplified consultancy framework
- Training programs specific to Real Hair by Clara products

If you are interested in working for yourself, and becoming a Real Hair by Clara hair consultant, please get in touch, we would love to hear from you: Email all enquiries to consultants@realhairbyclara.com

The Most Copied Celebrity Hairstyle

At Real Hair by Clara we are always on the look out for the latest hair trends fresh from salons and of course from the red carpets. It was recently reported that Cheryl Cole's wavy brunette hair has made it to the number one spot in a study of the most copied celebrity hairstyles in the UK.

In second place for the most requested hairstyle was Holly Willoughby’s glossy honey coloured locks, according to hairdressers Toni & Guy.

In third place came Kelly Brook’s loosely curled hairstyle, with the Duchess of Cambridge’s shiny blow dried curls coming in fourth place.

Jennifer Anistons current layered hairstyle came in fifth place, her famous ‘Rachel hairstyle’ inspired a lot of women.

Cheryl Cole, a model for L'Oreal’ hair products, appears twice in the list, with her red/burgundy locks in sixth place.

Yet the singers locks have induced more than its fair share of disputes.

When Cheryl Cole appeared in the national advertising campaign for L’Oreal Elvive Full Restore 5 shampoo and conditioner, displaying her incredibly shiny hair, she was blamed for misleading fans as it came to light that her locks were achieved through £1,000 worth of hair extensions.

The Advertising Standards Agency in 2009 said they had received 13 complaints that the adverts were misleading, only to be rejected as the disclaimer about Cheryl Cole's hair was “clear and legible” on the advert. Just as controversial was the radical, backcombed hair style that Cheryl sported for the launch of her ill-starred career as a judge on the American X Factor in 2011.

Simon Cowell, who axed Cole from the show just two weeks in over “concerns over her image”, he told her after filming, “the crazy hair goes tomorrow”, according to Cheryl Cole.

The survey also uncovered that a third of women have asked their hairdressers for the same hairstyle and colour as their favourite celeb.

Hair Extensions FAQs

Here at Real Hair by Clara we naturally receive a lot of questions about hair extensions, whether they are suitable for any hair, whether they will ruin hair and the best type of extensions to use. We thought it would be beneficial to share such questions (and the answers!) on our blog so that all readers can consult are FAQs whenever they like!

1. Do hair extensions damage your hair?

If the hair extensions are professionally applied, and the person who applies the extensions is professionally trained then the application process will not damage your hair. Following application it is up to you to abide by the salon's aftercare advice to ensure both your extensions and your hair are maintained to the highest quality.

2. Where does the hair come from?

Hair extensions can either be made from real human hair or synthetic hair. Synthetic hair is therefore plastic and although this can be great for creating different colours and looks, there can be a few complications shall we say: The hair can melt when using hair straighteners or hair dryers. Real human hair provides you with the opportunity to create that natural look you have always desired. The hair is ethically sourced from Europe, India, Peru, Brazil and Asia and is provided by willing individuals. The hair is then treated before it is used for extensions.

3. How long do hair extensions last?

The durability of hair extensions depends on the supplier and the individual. We believe that here at Real Hair by Clara, the durability of our hair is greater than many of our competitors. Our wefted extensions will last 6 months. Our bulk and pre bonded hair will last 8 months. Finally our Clara couture range will last 12 months. Obviously the bulk, pre bonded and Clara Couture range are only available to salons as the hair needs to be applied by trained professionals.

Individuals can help their extensions last longer by abiding by the salon aftercare advice. For example, brushing extensions carefully to not pull at the roots, using shampoo and conditioner specifically for extensions, and taking care when drying and straightening the hair. Your extensions will grow down from about 3 months after they have been applied, which often shows the bonds through your hair and ruins the natural look. However, your salon should re use the hair and reapply the extensions, especially with RHBC hair as the durability is a lot longer than 3 months!

These are the 3 main questions people consider when thinking about hair extensions. If you take care of the extensions then there is no reason why you cannot use them to achieve the natural, full look you have always desired!
